There are tons of music festivals, many of which combine funk with other music genres, like “jazz funk fests” and “hip-hop funk fests.” Without a doubt, these events are fun, but often leave many fans of the funk high and dry, and thirsty for that 100% strictly, purely, raw undiluted funk flavor.
Well, we heard the prayers, and that’s why the Long Beach Funk Fest has manifested – to bring an event of uncut funk magnitude to Long Beach, California, and to all the funkateers worldwide!
We bring the country’s most respected funk legends, as well as todays favorites, together with funk fans old and new. Then we let them loose in the streets of downtown Long Beach for one full day of music and good times under the sun. Come help us show the world where funk came from and where it’s going. One nation under a groove!
One of the cornerstones of the Long Beach Funk Fest since its inception is sustainability. We are committed to working with green and eco-friendly sponsors, vendors, and partners whenever possible as well as demonstrate to the public that it’s possible to put on a major urban event with minimal environmental impact. This year, the LB Funk Fest, along with the rest of the SAM (Summer And Music) concerts, will incorporate self-contained solar-powered stages. That’s right…SOLAR POWERED FUNK. The DLBA (Downtown Long Beach Associates) and RDA (Redevelopment Agency), in conjunction with SAM and LBFF founding members, are partnering with Sustainable Waves, an Austin-based all-solar staging, lighting and sound company offering 100 percent pollution-free concerts.
