The 60-plus musicians and singers that make up Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown are led by ring leader John Heintz and features an all-star line-up of greats including George Clinton, Sidney Barnes, Michael “Clip” Payne, The Gift of Gab, and P-Funk sirens Belita Woods and Kendra Foster and introducing newcomers Laura Reed and Rev. Desmond D’Angelo. The project is guided by the spirit of Garry “Starchild” Shider who, until his untimely passing earlier this year, performed on the record and was a major catalyst in the birth of the band. The band’s debut CD, Big Ol ‘Nasty Getdown Volume 1, is scheduled for release on the Getdown Entertainment imprint on August 16th on iTunes. http://bigolnastygetdown.wordpress.com/
Steve Arrington formerly of Slave (6:50-8:00pm)
After leaving the game for nearly 25 years, Steve Arrington is back and pushing the envelope. Known for his innovative vocals on such funk classics as “Watching You” and “Just A Touch of Love,” with Slave, as well as his solo work like “Weak at the Knees”, “Way Out” and “Nobody Can Be You”, from the soul/funk movement of the 70’s & 80s, his songs have been sampled by the likes of Jay-Z, Jermaine Dupri, Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Snoop, LL Cool J, Mariah Carey, and N.W.A. His music also helped create the blueprint of 90’s west coast g-funk music along with Zapp and George Clinton. Steve’s 2009 release of “Pure Thang”, his first album in over 20 years, lead to Dam-Funk, reaching out to Steve to propose collaborating on an album for Stones Throw Records, and thus, something inter-generational is born. Currently Steve is touring with a new band, as well as doing dates with artists like DJ Quik and Q Tip, who are more than up for the idea of sharing the stage with someone who influenced and inspired their careers. His new album, “Love, Peace & Funky Beatz”, is due out late summer 2011. The single from that album, “Goin Hard” was just released. http://www.godfactorrecords.com/

Patryce “Choc’Let” Banks was an original member of the celebrated Grammy- nominated group Graham Central Station. In the 70s, she was involved in the birth of the American music phenomenon of funk music. Patryce played percussion and shared the spotlight as lead singer alongside Larry Graham. (Fans and music industry insiders alike have credited Graham as an innovator, most notably for in- venting the percussive “slap bass technique.”) Graham was also her lover and mentor. Choc’Let was nothing less than a sex sym- bol, a young successful, beautiful black woman. In discussing the genesis of GCS, Choc’Let voices, “Originally Larry was produc- ing my band, Hot Chocolate. I was the featured lead vocalist. During this time he was still with Sly. However, fate would have it another way. Larry ended up leav- ing Sly and the Family Stone, and joined Hot Chocolate. With his addition to the group, he brought a transformation. The name was changed from Hot Chocolate to Graham Central Station. http://www.patrycechocletbanks.com/
Delta Nove (1:50-2:45pm)
Delta Nove (delta novay) Formed in a Long Beach, California garage with funk at the core, Delta Nove has grown incredibly since those early days and their first independent EP release in 1998. After hundreds of Nationwide shows on the road, the band has developed its world funk sound to crowds around the country. When using the term “world funk” we’re talking deep and heavy funk grooves, a thunderous array of percussion, catchy songs, and a celebration of life like you’re at Brazilian Carnaval and New Orleans Mardi Gras all at the same time.
